Are you under 20 and keen to learn the best ways to look after your skin while living in a hot country? Extremely hot weather can be damaging to any person’s skin – no matter where you are born. Most people ignore this kind of thing until they are older. Don’t be one of them!
As a teenager, there are a handful of things you can do to take care of the future of your skin to keep it glowing now and as you enter adulthood. Let’s dive into the 7 ways you can get ahead!
Tip #1: Stay fresh with gentle cleansing
The first thing to remember is clean skin is healthy skin. The perfect amount to wash your face is twice every day. This can mean once in the morning and once before bed, or once in the morning and again after exercise.
When you wash your face, it gets rid of dirt, sweat, and excess oil that can clog pores and cause acne or eczema breakouts.
We recommend using a gentle face wash that won’t strip your skin of its natural moisture. Some of the best cleansers include natural ingredients such as chamomile or green tea, which will soothe and refresh your skin.
We don’t recommend washing your face more than twice per day because this can result in irritation. It is also best to pat your face dry with a clean towel. Rubbing or stretching can cause problems in the long term, especially if your skin is sensitive.
Tip #2: Focus on hydration throughout the day
Drinking water is important for everybody but when you live in a hot country, it is crucial. Think about it – as you sweat in the heat, your body loses water. This leads to dehydration which means dehydrated skin that can leave you with a dull complexion, make your skin tight or cause even more breakouts.
The recommended daily amount of water to drink is 3.7 liters for men and 2.7 liters for women. It’s much easier when you keep a big 3-liter bottle with you all day at work and challenge yourself to get through it. And if you want to make it more tasty, add a few slices of fruit or cucumber to your water bottle. Easy!
Tip #3: Use light moisturizers
As we mentioned, when it’s hot, staying hydrated is especially important. Water keeps you hydrated from the inside. A moisturizer keeps your skin hydrated on the outside. We recommend using a lightweight, oil-free moisturizer that doesn’t feel greasy. Sticking to ‘non-comedogenic products’ as often as possible is a good idea because they won’t clog your pores.
If you have oily skin, gel-based moisturizers could be your new best friend because they absorb quickly and leave a matte finish. If you have dry skin, then hyaluronic acid or glycerine are the best ingredients to look for in your light moisturizer because they provide deep hydration without that heavy feeling.
Tip #4: Prevent early aging with sunscreen
If you live in a hot country, sunscreen is a daily essential. The sun’s rays are incredibly dangerous. It’s not just about beauty and avoiding wrinkles. Unprotected sun exposure can give you sunburn and even skin cancer. Always wear sunscreen to look after your future health. SPF 30 or higher – even on cloudy days.
When you are applying sunscreen remember to include the back of your neck, ears, and the top of your feet. These are the most often overlooked areas. We recommend reapplying sunscreen every two hours in hot climates.
Tip #5: Combat excess oil
When the weather is hot and humid, it’s normal for skin to get oily. One of the downsides is this can lead to potential breakouts. Excess oil can easily be managed by with oil-control products like oil-free primers and blotting papers. They can help you to maintain fresh complexion throughout the day.
Please watch out for products containing harsh ingredients. Also, if you’re thinking of aggressively scrubbing your skin to remove excess oil, the bad news is this might actually trigger even more oil production. We recommend finding products that contain natural ingredients such as tea tree oil or witch hazel. These are excellent at helping you to balance the oil level of your skin.
Tip: 6: Cool down with facial mists
On a sweltering hot day, a fantastic way to stay cool is with a hydrating facial mist. When you use a facial mist, it’s like quenching the thirst of your skin. You can take them anywhere and use them whenever you feel hot. Our favorite types of facial mists include soothing ingredients such as aloe vera and chamomile.
Tip #7: Spend time in the shade and dress smart
As you already know, the hottest time of day is usually between 10 am and 4 pm. We suggest avoid taking risks and protect your skin from sun damage. If you walk a lot during this time, we suggest using an umbrella or walking in the shade.
The best types of clothing for extremely hot weather are lightweight and breathable. Long sleeves, wide hats, and sunglasses will help you to protect your skin and eyes. The best way to prevent crow’s feet wrinkles is to always remember your sunglasses.
