ERA’S COMMUNITY PROJECT

Derma Kids Cambodia

INTRODUCTION

What is The Derma Kids Cambodia Project?

At The Era Clinic, our dermatology services include the treatment of severe acne, chronic eczema and various other skin issues and diseases.

We hate to see people struggling with these conditions in their lives – especially when it comes to children.

In addition to providing our usual services, we have decided to use our expertise to help the youth communities of Cambodia more proactively.

Derma Kids Cambodia is focused on helping Cambodian children with severe conditions to receive free dermatological treatments so they can grow up mentally healthy and confident.

Let’s take a closer look at the problem.

THE PROBLEM

Key Facts That Inspired Us To Make A Difference

“98% of patients with a skin disorder say that their condition affects their emotional and psychological wellbeing.”

All Parliamentary Group on Skin

“Atopic Dermatitis can affect children at much younger ages than acne can. Managing this chronic dermatologic condition puts notable strain on the caregivers of pediatric patients with AD, which often negatively impacts their relationship with their child.”

Medical Study: Skin Disease in Children

“Eczema is an inflammatory skin disease affecting 20 per cent of children and 8 per cent of adults. It is strongly linked to severe impacts on quality of life, as well as psychological and psychiatric illness such as anxiety, depression and attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD).”

Medical Research Foundation UK

“Acne, atopic dermatitis, and psoriasis are common dermatologic conditions that affect the pediatric population and have a great impact on the quality of life of patients and their caregivers. Patients face increased risk of poor self-esteem, stigmatization, and psychosocial conditions, which influence their daily activities at home, school, and work.”

PURPOSE

Why Does Era Care So Much About This Problem?

Here are the three major reasons we are so passionate about our youth confidence community project.

Reason #1: We believe children benefit greatly from having the confidence to dream big about the life they want to live in the future.

If a child looks in the mirror and feels insecure about his or her skin conditions or maybe gets bullied at school because of them, this can affect the development of their character. As a result, they may not believe in themselves enough to aim high in life. We want the children of Cambodia to see the world as colourful, exciting and full of possibility.

Reason #2: We want children to grow up as the kinds of people who can express themselves with confidence.

When we develop confidence early in our lives, it sets us up to be the kinds of people who can communicate effectively.

Furthermore, the development of confidence while young enables us to learn to understand our own emotions and become better able to consider the perspective of other people.

Not only does this benefit the well-being of children as they mature into adults, it also increases the chance of them becoming successful at whatever we put they minds to. Social confidence and compassion are what high-achievers and great parents are made of.

Reason #3: We believe when children are freed of skin conditions, they will have a positive influence on other children.

The lack of confidence experienced by certain children can be subconsciously expressed in undesirable ways. One example is aggression toward other children. This behaviour is often a result of insecurities that are not addressed. Human beings of any age take out their personal frustration on other people unknowingly. It all starts from the time when we form our personalities as children and develop the ability to connect. The Era Clinic wants to take a stand for healthy minds and healthy bodies for the next generation.
